Where it began in America
Back in the 15th and 16th centuries when European sailors first discovered Africa they viewed them as savages. They were viewed as savages because Africans would sell their own people to slave traders. This started the transatlantic trade where African Americans were either sold off or kidnapped from other countries in order to be used as salves.

Racism in Modern Days
Although slavery is illegal in America, is doesn’t remove the prejudice people have against African Americans. When you think about it slavery, was not that long ago. People living in America have grandparents and other family members that were slaves or slave owners. Many are being prosecuted quicker than other races and live with a bit of fear stepping outside their house. For example, Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by a Police Officer for the color of his skin. This is one of of many that occur each year.
I think we are in a better path to equality but there is still a lot of work to be done. You still racism and hate crimes happening daily especially with people being able to film things on their cell phones. I think racism stems from people who are not educated about other cultures. This stems from parents not informing their kids at a young age. Also, some people believe that because they have a different skin color from someone else or is raised from a different part of the country, that they are superior to others.
